The "Trophée des Multicoques"

The Revival

Revival

May 1980: there were 22 boats at the start of the Trophée des Multicoques. A first, which marked a real turning point in the story of ocean racing multihulls…

38 years after this memorable event (won by Eric Loizeau on Gauloise IV, who raced this new edition aboard Charlie Capelle’s Acapella) the meeting has returned, with the aim of being a perennial event.

For this revival, the organizers decided to split the multihulls into 4 groups: over 30 m, 15 to 30 m, those corresponding to the Multi 2000 rule and finally the Diam 24s, giving around twenty boats ready to do battle with the legend of the trophy, over four days of racing.

And for those of you who were doubtful, the Trophee is not just a simple parade of beautiful boats – certain of them are over 35 years old, but remain incredibly competitive – and the legs were very hard-fought in each of the groups, and a large majority of the skippers who will be on the start line of the Rhum in a few weeks’ time took advantage of the opportunity to adjust their machines and see how they are going compared to their competitors.

See you next year for a new edition…
