Going to the dentist usually conjures up a bit of anxiety for many of us, and for others, it can be full-blown panic. We’ve come across the perfect solution if you have a phobia of the dentist: step on board a catamaran equipped like a dental practice!
Antoine and Chloé are long-term sailors. They’ve logged many seasons’ racing and even a transatlantic race. These two enthusiasts also like to do good work for others, and have a lot of experience in humanitarian work and healthcare.
In 2013, they launched a project, “Mission Hygiène et Prévention” (Hygiene and Preventative Care Mission). The concept was sailing/dental healthcare around an Atlantic crossing and its preparation. They wanted to meet sailors, children and the public to give advice about dental care. Between 2013 and 2015, they distributed over 700 dental kits and more than 1,500 toothbrushes!
In 2016, they decided to step the project up a gear, with “Océan Dentiste”. The plan was to equip a boat with a real dentist’s chair, and to go from stopover to stopover reaching out to young people, and not so young, to give advice on looking after their teeth.
On board their TS42 catamaran, the couple plan to cruise along the French coast - 120 stopovers have already been organized - before crossing the Atlantic in 2019 to continue their mission…
Help them continue their project
