The Lars Thrane LT-3100S will be the first terminal to offer Iridium service to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Iridium, after Inmarsat, becomes the second satellite provider of this essential service. With the LT-3100S, mariners will have an all-in-one system that can meet the requirements of navigation, as well as a main or auxiliary communication system. Or telephone, text and data services with an integrated GNSS/GPS receiver. Navigation and weather warnings issued by terminals and marine safety information broadcasts will help boaters avoid hazards. Currently in the implementation phase to prepare for the introduction of the GMDSS service, Iridium plans to provide this service from January 2020.
