As with cars, having cameras at the back of your multihull can be particularly useful when the helm station is far from the stern (forward in the nacelle or up on the flybridge) and/or when visibility over the quarters is unsatisfactory.
Garmin has specially designed cameras for this purpose: they can even display distance markers and guidance lines on the plotter screen. The two 1080p (Full HD) cameras provide several viewing angles (Standard, FishEye wide-angle and Bird’s Eye). On the screen, the helmsman can use a digital zoom to take a closer look at a specific area of interest, and a panoramic crop, ideal for observing all around the field of view.
The GC 255 camera features a stainless steel thru-hull housing that can be flush-mounted. The GC 245, on the other hand, is surface-mounted without a cutout, and can be oriented with the dome up or down. It is available in black or white.
