When Olivier de Kersauson, sailing Un Autre Regard, was forced to stop in the lee of Table Mountain during his solo circumnavigation in January 1989 there were many at the Cape who considered his effort crazy. The scepticism was not aimed at Kersauson's individualism alone, but also at the fact that someone should have the audacity to sail a big multihull around the Cape of Storms and along the edge of the Southern Ocean.
