SailGP – a new circuit, aboard 50-foot flying cats with wing masts

Did you like – as we did – the incredible spectacle provided by the catamarans of the 35^th America’s Cup, but are vexed that the next Cup will be raced in…monohulls (flying, agreed, but monohulls nevertheless)?

Well here is something to console you!

A new circuit is going to see the light of day in 2019. It will be raced on 50-foot one-design catamarans with rigid wing sails, capable of top speeds of over 50 knots.

Six crews, from six different nations (Australia, China, France, Great Britain, Japan and the USA), have been pre-selected, and are going to do battle during the five meetings now programmed in Sydney (AUS), San ...
