There’s no denying that competitive sailing - any sailing in fact - is an activity mainly practiced by men. And yet most of the major events, Olympism apart, are open to all without distinction of gender.
Men and women find themselves on equal footing on the start line, except that it’s still more difficult for the latter... Some sponsors are indeed reluctant when it comes to supporting a female sailor: they can even become ungrateful - as evidenced by the talented Clarisse Crémer, just excluded from the next Vendée Globe, having recently had a baby... So, isn't it high time to change the world? Alexia Barrier, at 44 years old, is determined to do so: she has decided to put together a crew of 10 women to tackle – aboard an Ultim of course - the Jules Verne Trophy, currently held by Francis Joyon. The time to beat is 40 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes. Already 8 women are part of her Famous Project, whose departure is scheduled for 2025.
