Round the Island Race

The Round the Island Race is a mythical event, raced fully crewed, which each year has incredible popular success.

This year, taking all the classes together, there were 1650 boats at the start! From absolutely sumptuous classic yachts to latest generation Maxis, such as the Farrlcap-designed 100-foot Leopard, there were all kinds of boats on the start line. But finally there were few capable of winning. Amongst the favourites there were of course the multihulls (always fastest), and this year the Multi50 Actual won, after a memorable battle with Prince de Bretagne, which was finally only 3 minutes behind on the line after five and a half hours’ racing.   
Note that the third boat and first IRC (a monohull!) was beaten by an hour over a 50-mile course...
