Ryan Finn has completed his incredible challenge: this Thursday, April 21 at 6:04 pm, after 93 days at sea, he crossed the finish line of an incredible course that covered over 13,000 miles from New York to San Francisco. The route included the very tricky passage of Cape Horn from east to west - the wrong direction.
In order to have the best conditions in that region, it’s almost imperative to be sailing there in the summer, and that implies departing from New York in the depths of winter... And just to add to the excitement, Ryan undertook the trip single-handed on board Jzerro, his 36-foot proa. The adventure didn’t get off to the best start, after a first aborted attempt a few hundred miles into the journey... the second attempt proved better, though right until the end, Ryan had to fight and manage the weather conditions: just 50 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge, the wind almost died, but he just managed to enter mythical San Francisco Bay on the falling tide.
