New reference time for Coville

Whilst Francis Joyon was achieving a feat by sailing 666 miles in 24 hours, Thomas Coville, who had just disembarked from the winning VOR 60 in the Volvo with Franck Cammas, attacked the record for crossing the Mediterranean singlehanded on his faithful trimaran.

Sodebo set off from Marseille in a 25-knot beam wind, for Carthage - 458 miles to be covered as quickly as possible. The skipper's aim was to establish a reference time over this route.
The weather was not as good as hoped for, and it took Thomas 1 day, 1 hour, 36 minutes and 36 seconds to reach the finish line, at an average speed of 17.62 knots over the direct route.
