Multis racing

In the 80s and 90s, racing a multihull was a current practice.

And then little by little the skippers deserted the start lines to set off in their catamarans and trimarans to discover the world and the delightful anchorages in distant lagoons. But the renewal of multihull racing – with the America’s Cup in first place – is evidently giving both organizers (see the Bermuda Race, page 18) and skippers ideas. This year, it was the cult Spi Ouest-France which thus opened its doors to ‘cruising’ multihulls. Racing under the Multi 2000 rule, there were 17 of them at the start, and the result shows the appeal of this kind of race. Victory went to Charlie Capelle’s Acapella, ahead of the TS 42 Guyader (we will see these boats again at the start of the coming Route du Rhum), followed by the Dragonfly 920 Extreme Aberzen, then the Dragonfly 920 Racing Kidyzoja and the Newick trimaran Aile Bleu...

If we count the 33 one-design Diam24s also present, there were around fifty multihulls at the start of this race.
