MOD 70: an incredible premiere…
A bit less than 5 days to race across the Atlantic, between New York and Brest – this is the very nice performance of the MOD 70s for their first Atlantic crossing.

Spindrift, the fastest!
After the collapse and destruction of the ORMA 60 trimarans after the dismal 2002 Route du Rhum, a solution had to be found to re-launch multihull ocean racing in a lasting way... The idea of a strict one-design, allowing the operating costs to be limited, was finally adopted, and thus the MOD 70 was born, a boat which is finally quite close to the old ORMA 60s, as the performance realised in the first real race for these wonderful marine dragonflies has just proved.
After a few warm-up rounds and several races for assessment, the MOD 70s have therefore begun their real circuit, with a first transatlantic race from New York to Brest. Five boats on the start line (MOD 70 n° 2 remained in the pits following the desertion of Roland Jourdain's sponsor), and quite rough conditions allowed a first hierarchy to be established: the fastest was Yann Guichard on Spindrift Racing, who crossed the finish line after just 4 days and 21 hours racing. A time to be compared with the record set by the giant Banque Pop V in 3 days and 15 hours, in ideal weather conditions...
The other satisfaction gained from this premiere is that the first three boats arrived in the space of an hour and a half (the two others had damage). The one-design concept is therefore a really good one, and should quickly provide a good spectacle.
Appointment
Whilst waiting for the round the world race, whose start will be given in October 2013, at the moment, the MOD 70s are meeting around Europe. If you have the opportunity, don't hesitate to go and see the spectacle. It's brilliant!

3- Foncia - Michel Desjoyeaux + 1hr 39mins 20sec.
4- Musandam-Oman Sail - Sidney Gavignet + 9hrs. 56mins 59sec.
5- Race for water - Stève Ravussin + 1d 19hrs 23mins 55 sec.
