After two years’ work and around 135,000 hours of construction, Armel Le Cléach’s new boat has just been launched.
Banque Populaire’s trimaran is the ninth in the series and will have a lot to do, faced with the cut-throat competition in the Ultim class. On the program for this new 32-meter giant, capable of flying and approaching 50 knots, no Transat Jacques Vabre, but an attempt on the Route de la Découverte record, the Nie Ultimed and the 2018 Route du Rhum, then the singlehanded round the world race in 2019. Maxi Banque Populaire IX is thus a boat really designed for the singlehander, but one which can also be sailed fully crewed and so possibly attack the Jules Verne Trophy…
