With 30 years' experience of nautical construction behind him, Michael Reardon founded Daedalus Yachts, with a first project for an avant-garde catamaran intended for one of the founders of Google Map, Stefan Muff. This Multiyacht’s specification is audacious: to sail permanently at one and a half times to twice the wind speed, with average speeds of over 20 knots, and provide the comfort of a Superyacht, without producing a gram of CO2, and offering unlimited independence.
Michael Reardon managed Shipman Carbon Yacht / Greenline, and supervised the construction of the last Gunboat 78. With this new adventure, he is giving himself the conceptual and technical possibility of creating a new generation of catamarans, with hitherto unknown levels of pleasure. Based in North Carolina, the new yard brings together the skills of around fifteen former Gunboat employees, including the designer Rudo Enserink, who designed the G4 and Doug Schickler, in charge of the hydrodynamics, using an innovative fluid management computer system. Electric motor / generators, carbon wind generators, a coachroof completely covered with solar panels, sails and covers completely covered with photovoltaic films, production and storage of hydrogen derived from techniques used on nuclear submarines, will allow it never to be limited in energy, while benefitting from the greatest luxury. Automation is also taken to its height. An electronic assistance program, taking into account all the parameters of the navigation, the weather, the sails and the manoeuvres has been developed in cooperation with Michel Desjoyeaux and his team at Mer Agitée. The idea is simply to be able to return home by pushing a button, with tacks, gybes and collision avoidance being carried out automatically!
Delivery of this incredible catamaran is planned for 2020!
