Having arrived by sea aboard a 22-meter catamaran in 2002, Hervé Le Touzé created Catathai two years later, with Daruwan, who then became his wife.
The great adventure was to last 14 years, until Herve’s death at the beginning of this year. Based in Phuket, the company employs 25 people, and is now managed by Gilles Reigner, a doctor of physics specializing in structural dynamics, and Daruwan, captain in the Thai merchant navy. Gilles is a real enthusiast for both catamarans and material technology (with some patent applications) and was attracted by the human adventure that a builder such as Catathai represents “with boats designed by French excellence and built by skilled men who live, sail and work in the Tropics.” The aim is to develop the company’s catamarans, both from a performance and a comfort and finishing point of view, thanks to the new manager’s technical skills.
