A powercat can only claim to be a true adventure craft on one condition: it must be able to cross oceans. That’s the promise Sunreef Yachts is making with its radical “new” model, the 40M Explorer.
In truth, this multiyacht was first presented back in 2020, but at the time the ECO range didn’t yet exist. The 654 m² of usable surface area - which includes a gigantic deck that’s modular on two levels thanks to folding bulwarks and a central platform - which incorporates a launch platform for water toys (or a small, protected swimming pool, depending on the model). The 40M has been designed with a large 7-meter (23-foot) dinghy for easy access ashore or for reconnaissance trips. The luxurious accommodation is spread over three levels, with the owner’s cabin on the upper deck and four guest cabins on the main deck.
The Forever Green plus is, of course, the two 540 kW motors, which enable the yacht to sail for several dozen miles without carbon emissions. To limit drag, the relatively slender hulls are combined with wave-piercing bows. The all-composite construction emphasizes weight management. The “solar skin” developed by Sunreef transforms the entire outer surface of the hull and all superstructures into a source of energy, generating enough power to run all on-board systems - air conditioning, ice makers, Jacuzzi, audiovisual and office equipment, etc.
The 40M Explorer ECO can accommodate ten guests with the help of seven crew members.
