We thought the Ultims were going to be completing their transat in ten days or so... Well, they only took 7 days to race to Salvador de Bahia from Le Havre, and in doing so, exploded the course record set by Groupama 2 in 2007.
Ultim trimarans are exceptional machines, especially when they are driven hard by a pair of formidable skippers.
At the finish, Sodebo Ultim (Coville and Nélias) took the line, ahead of the brand new Edmond de Rothschild (Josse and Rouxel) with a lead of 1H 47 mn following 4,350 miles of crazy Atlantic racing! The "flying" Ultim, Edmond de Rothschild was only just launched before the start, and demonstrated a potential of bewildering speed but was to experience technical problems by the end of the race. As for Thomas Coville, he's had an incredible year, taking the single-handed round the world record, the Atlantic record, and now a win in the Transat Jacques Vabre...
