This range of horsepower for outboard motors, particularly popular for bigger tenders but also for performance-oriented multihulls not equipped with inboard diesels, has just been updated by the maker of the famous FourStroke.
Mercury's new 25 and 30 HP platform was designed from the start to be lighter, faster, and easier to operate and maintain. These outboards feature a 500cc 3-cylinder powerhead with electronic fuel injection. For the first time, the 25 and 30 HP electric start models come standard with Mercury SmartCraft® digital technologies, allowing boaters to connect to digital gauges and mobile devices via VesselView Mobile™. Weighing in at a minimum of 132 lbs (60 kg), these new engines are 16% lighter than the previous generation and offer significant fuel economy. The outboards come in 25 and 30 HP FourStroke, 25 HP SeaPro™ and 25 HP ProKicker ™ versions. The new engines are available with electric or manual start, tiller or wheel/throttle control, manual or electric trim and propeller or waterjet propulsion. Tiller models feature an ergonomic tiller handle that is adjustable for right- or left-handed operation and are intuitive to use. As for maintenance, the no-spill oil change system includes a tray under the oil filter to catch any drips. The fuel filter has been designed so that water can be quickly removed without needing tools.
