The Bosco OJR is a new multifunction knife specially designed for the boating world, as its name suggests, thanks to the French word “Bosco” translating as “Bosun”. It was originally developed by Lilian Sueur, a boat enthusiast and former sailing instructor. And it was while teaching sailing that he came up with the idea for this knife.
Frustrated that he couldn’t find a multi-purpose emergency knife that was truly adapted to the nautical world, Lilian decided to create one. To do so, he began by defining an exacting set of specifications. The knife had to have a square tip for safety, it had to have basic tooling, it had to be made of stainless steel to withstand salt water, it had to be sturdy and simple without a mechanism to avoid any reliability issues, and finally it had to come in a quick-draw sheath. The end result is exactly what was planned. In fact, the knife is made from a single piece of very solid stainless steel (Z40 C13), at 4 mm thick, with cut-outs for tools. In addition to the blade, there are “flat wrench” notches that go from 7 to 17 mm, bit-holding adapters and the indispensable shackle key. The tool also includes a 1-meter (39-inch) lanyard, which doubles as a handle. The sheath, made from webbing, is equipped with a lockable quick-draw and a Velcro fastening on the back for easy attachment to a belt or somewhere in the cockpit.
The sheath is also fitted with a meter of emergency cord, allowing it to be attached to a lifejacket, oilskins or the straps of a bag.
The knife is available with various lanyard colors.
