BlueNav is a manufacturer of electric propulsion systems dedicated to the hybridization of boats. In other words, this company based in the Bassin d'Arcachon region in western France offers solutions for converting medium-sized boats (20 to 50 feet/6-15 m) equipped with internal combustion engines into hybrid electric boats.
Always on the lookout for innovations, the manufacturer has just unveiled its latest BlueSpin drive at boot Düsseldorf. This is a compact, lightweight, retractable electric motor that can be installed on new boats or fitted as a repower. The BlueSpins (of course, there will be two on board a catamaran) are accompanied by a connected navigation system that optimizes energy use when under way.
The brand's latest product inaugurates the Whale Design concept. Inspired by biomimicry, the motor incorporates a propeller whose wide blades precisely reproduce the shape of a whale's flippers – hence the unusual bumps visible on the trailing edge. According to studies carried out by BlueNav engineers, this design improves the efficiency of the propeller.
BlueSpin motors will be available from the second quarter of 2024.
