For a long time, carbon fiber has been considered non-recyclable - and therefore particularly polluting. Despite this assumption, in 2009 a specialized company, Alpha Recyclage Composites, set out to validate a process capable of treating not only production scraps, but a wide range of composite waste, from aircraft parts to boat hulls and racing bikes.
The second part of the challenge was to give the recycled fiber a new, “noble” life in high-value, high-performance technical applications for sectors such as the automotive and marine sectors. Today, the new production line is capable of producing 450 tons a year. They have also signed partnerships with many other companies, including Multiplast. This boat builder is due to develop a non-woven product using recycled fibers for hull molds.
