Normally, it would be the traveler carrying, dragging or pushing their carry-on bag through airport terminals... but with Airwheel, it is the other way around: the suitcase carries the traveler.
The SE3S model is equipped with two sturdy wheels and a handlebar/stem/fork/wheel assembly mounted on a mini frame that retracts into the suitcase. Simply take out the frame, lift up the stem and then sit on the suitcase to ride at up to 13 km/h (8 mph) thanks to the 73.26 Wh battery that powers a 250 W motor. The range varies from 20 to 60 minutes depending on your speed. The SE3S model has a payload of 90 kg (198 lbs). In principle, Airwheel has got it right, having chosen a battery of less than 100 Wh (power limit for carrying on board an aircraft). Two downsides, however: the Airwheel suitcase offers a limited volume compared to a conventional model at 20 l compared to 35 to 40 l (0.7 cubic feet compared to 1.24 to 1.4) and above, is relatively heavy: 6.8 kg (15 lbs), while a standard suitcase can weigh less than 2 kg (4.4 lbs). This is a weight that can cause problems, as airlines limit the weight of cabin baggage to 5 kg (11 lbs) for the most stringent – 18 kg (40 lbs) for the most generous. On average, you can expect 12 to 15 kg (26 to 33 lbs), or a payload of 5.2 to 8.2 kg (11.5 to 18 lbs).
