In our previous issue, we ran an article entitled "Rhum Multi, the Class of Legends", in which we mentioned the doubt concerning Thomas Lurton's participation aboard his famous Moxie.
The skipper had been sat at the top of the waiting list for a long time, and it took a lot of perseverance through long months of uncertainty for him to not give up, to maintain the confidence of the sponsors, to head off on his 1,200-mile qualifying passage on September 12 around the North Atlantic single-handed, and to prepare his Dick Newick-designed trimaran… just in case. On Friday, October 7, came the good news: the youngest skipper in the Rhum Multi class (he was born July 1, 1997) and the oldest boat registered (Moxie was built in 1979) have qualified for the legendary Route du Rhum! On the startline, the pair will be seeing another of our partners: Brieuc Maisonneuve and his ORC 50, 60 000 Rebonds – this was the boat in the headline photo of the article mentioned above.
