Round The Island Race

90th Edition and still going strong!

A simple course that guarantees (in theory) every point of sail and requires good strategic moves thanks to the coastal effects, the sea state and the tides...

The recipe for this event, which simply consists of sailing around the Isle of Wight, remains the same and seems to ensure an eternal success: for this 90th edition held on July 3rd, no less than 1,200 yachts were registered! Note that the multihull class has existed since 1961. The 2021 edition was won by Peter Cunningham’s MOD70 PowerPlay in in 4h 11min and 01sec. Slowed down by light airs in the early stages of the race, the trimaran wasn’t going to see any chance of beating her record of 2h 22min and 23 sec set in 2017. The ULTIM Actual came in second, ahead of the 105-foot (32m) trimaran IDEC. The first monohull to finish the race posted a time of 6h 11min 36sec. The next edition is scheduled for Saturday, June 25th 2022.
