The 15th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 got under way on February 19 with good weather - 17 knots of well-established trade winds.
The fastest competitors benefited from these excellent conditions throughout their race, a veritable maze with 11 Caribbean islands as course markers. This was not the case for the smaller monohulls, who had to make do with much more irregular winds that followed. The RORC Caribbean 600 is traditionally a monohull race, with 54 out of the 64 entries... but the 10 multihulls provided all the entertainment: Jason Carroll’s MOD70 Argo (USA) crossed the line first, with an elapsed time of 01 day 8 hours 8 minutes and 40 seconds, some 15 hours ahead of the first monohull, the Farr 100 Leopard 3. Just 19 minutes behind Argo, Erik Maris’ MOD70 Zoulou (FRA) was the second participant to complete the course, ahead of the third MOD 70 entered, Alexia Barrier’s Limosa - The Famous Project (FRA), co-skippered by Dee Caffari.
