Finnish manufacturers Ocean Quality Systems made a name for themselves with the first OE 60 in 2014 (see full test in MW141). A very innovative and well-built multihull, she has since covered more than 60,000 miles. In 2016, the yard announced a new catamaran, 72 feet long and almost 36 feet in the beam (22 x 11 meters). This project is now coming to fruition, as launch day is imminent.
With her inverted bows, a sail plan of 3,140 sq ft (292 m²) rigged on a very centered Lorima mast and her curved daggerboards which plunge 8’6” (2.60 m) below the waterline, the OE C-72 should post some fine performances. The C-72 has luxurious accommodation for 6, 8 or even 10 guests depending on the private or luxury charter program. All the interior is “custom” and the furniture is made in foam sandwich with veneers, at the choice of the owner. The quality of finish, based on simplicity as already seen on the 60 feet, is exceptional. Hybrid propulsion has been entrusted to the new 2 x 100 kW Torqeedo Deep Blue motors. Customer delivery is scheduled for spring 2021 after four months of technical trials - Ocean Explorer's development is pretty serious! More information coming soon in Multihulls World - before a full test sail, of course!
