Ship classification society RINA has approved the aquaculture vessel Ocean Ark, patented by a group of experts. The approved vessel is a 170 m long and 64 m wide (560 x 210 feet) motorized trimaran. This cutting-edge superstructure with low emissions, artificial intelligence and self-cleaning copper cages aims to transform the unflattering image of the aquaculture industry by improving fish health and crew comfort.
This aquaculture superyacht developed by Chilean company Ocean Ark Tech (OATECH) and its strategic ally Ocean Sovereign, based in London, is designed to operate on the high seas. This allows for low-density farming, producing healthier, higher quality fish at lower costs than currently available offshore, onshore and from coastal aquaculture systems. Other advantages include the ability to escape extreme marine temperatures, algal blooms and storms without increasing pressure on wild fish stocks, coastal environments or drinking and irrigation water resources. Being mobile, the Ocean Ark can be stationed close to major consumer markets in Asia, the U.S. and Europe, reducing emissions linked to transporting from remote production sites.
