MerConcept

From competition to electric hydrofoil catamarans

MerConcept, created in 2006, is the company set up by former Vendée Globe record holder François Gabart. Initially, the organization supported the projects of the famous French skipper, but then took on other challenges - technical and logistical support for other sailors, followed by racing projects. The diversification of MerConcept's activities accelerated with the announcement of the launch of a foiling catamaran designed by SDK, in the United States.

MerConcept then approached VPLP to take charge of the naval architecture (the two carbon floats are largely inspired by the M101 trimaran, currently being assembled in Brittany), as well as the design, structure and configuration of the appendages. Other companies specializing in electronics, motorization and energy have also contributed to the project. This flying catamaran will be 39 feet (12 meters) long by 16 feet (5 meters) wide. It will be equipped with one main foil and two smaller support planes. Its two electric engines should ensure a range of 90 miles at a cruising speed of 22 knots with a crew of 8 people. Launch is scheduled for late 2021.
