Makai 37

An Optimized Powercat Equipped with Foils

The Croatia-based shipyard, which has just delivered a Makai 37 to the United States, is making modifications to its first model. The most striking innovation is the addition of a central foil (made of stainless steel or titanium) and a secondary trim foil.

These appendages have been designed to increase speed, as well as improve handling and comfort, all while reducing fuel consumption. Makai has provided a safety system in case of collision with an unidentified floating object: special bolts will shear in the event of a violent impact, allowing the foil to detach without damaging the hull. The next 37 to be built will also benefit from improved engine compartment insulation, an optional sunroof, additional handrails inside and out, a more practical galley, an upgraded finish and, finally, a bigger lithium battery bank and larger refrigerator capacity.
