One of my highlights of 2024 was a day aboard Sodebo 3 off Antibes with Thomas Coville and his incredible crew.
I was expecting an intense experience, with my hair blowing in the breeze, the boat flying across the water at breakneck speed, and what I got was... peaceful, very peaceful sailing. The simple fact was… not a breath of wind.
The start was promising: fascinating briefing, high-tech equipment, a top-notch crew. We were all ready to defy the elements. But that day, the Mediterranean had decided to take a siesta. Result: no speed, no salty spray in the face, just us, motionless, on this giant of the seas, observing the perfectly... unchanging horizon.
The crew had fun flying a drone. Meanwhile, Thomas and I chatted about his “new” passion for cruising multihulls and his own boat: he's the proud owner of an Outremer.
All in all, the day reminded me that sailing isn't always about thrills and speed. Sometimes, it's just about taking time, appreciating the moment, and letting yourself be carried along - even if it's under motor to get back to port before dark!
Many thanks to Thomas and his crew for this unique experience, full of laughter and simplicity. And to the Mediterranean... next time, a little breath of air wouldn't go amiss!
