Hydroptère: aiming for records!

It's now official; the French DCNS Group is going to give its support to Alain Thébault, the ‘father' of the foil trimaran, l'Hydroptère.
The aim is to attack several ocean records, including those for the Pacific and Atlantic crossings... To do this, the ‘flying trimaran' is going back into the yard for some work, notably to increase the sail area. It will then leave on a cargo ship for Los Angeles, to try and take the Los Angeles - Honolulu record, currently held by Kersauson, in 4 days, 19 hours. Aboard, in addition to Alain Thébault, will be Jean Le Cam and Luc Alphand... The next part of the programme will see the Hydroptère attack the Round the British Isles and the 24 hour records, in 2013. Finally, in 2014, the aim will be the most mythical record, that of the Atlantic, from west to east, established in August 2009 by Pascal Bidegorry and the crew of the maxi trimaran, Banque Populaire V, in 3 days, 15 hours and 25 minutes.
To remind you, the Hydroptère broke the 50-knot barrier (over 90 km/h) in 2009, with a top speed of 55.5 knots at Hyères (Var). It also holds the speed record over one mile, with an average of 50.17 knots.
