German entrepreneur Christian Braun and Iván Salas Jefferson of Iddes Yachts are launching Cosmopolitan Yachts, a new brand of custom-built aluminum electric catamarans. The first model they’ve announced is a 66-footer designed for unlimited offshore cruising, with construction expected to begin in October 2022.
The emphasis has been placed on the sea-keeping qualities of the hulls, the electric technology, and respect for the environment. Aluminum was the obvious choice thanks to its capacity to be recycled, its lightness and its solidity. Foils have been designed in order to improve comfort. Engineering has been focused on reducing energy consumption and vibration while guaranteeing maximum range and reliability. High-performance electric motors guarantee top speeds of 20 knots. These will be powered by a top of the range battery bank, recharged by solar panels integrated into the design.
