Cannes and Annapolis cancelled

It’s a tough time for major boating events: on Thursday August 20th, the city of Annapolis decided to ban its two boat shows – the US Powerboat Show and the US Sailboat Show, scheduled to be held on the Chesapeake - due to the health pandemic. This will take the wind out of the exhibitors’ sails, and also for the city itself, which would have seen revenues from the Annapolis Boat Shows close to $500,000. The very next day, the Cannes Yachting Festival announced its cancellation. On August 11th, the French government had pronounced an extension until October 30th for holding events with a maximum capacity of 5,000 people - but left ultimate control down to the local authorities. This was finally refused. In this context, other forthcoming boat shows such as France’s Grand Pavois at La Rochelle unfortunately might be in jeopardy.
