The genesis of this project is linked to the development of the ACC Wingsail. Naval architects Loïc Goepfert and Julien Boucher began the design of their trimaran with the rig, rather than the hulls or living spaces, to maximize all the advantages offered by the self-supporting, automated rig.
The ACCwing rig, with its fine camber adjustments and 360° wing rotation, offers optimum apparent wind effect at all times. This optimized, naturally carbon-free propulsion system is a clear invitation to eco-responsible sailing - solar panels and electric propulsion. The use of the self-supporting mast and the circular wing track have given rise to the first sketches of the large, round living area. This volume is connected to the 6 spacious cabins, all with their own en-suite bathrooms. The AWA78 is designed to accommodate 12 guests and up to 6 crew members, with the aim of offering very high-end services, as sailing maneuvers only require two people, thanks to the extreme simplicity of the controls. Aft, the platform and folding bulwarks combine to provide a 645-square foot (60 m²) private beach that can be protected from the elements as well as the sun.
