On 26th May, the hostilities will really begin, after almost four long years of waiting. The 35th America’s Cup is under way, and we intend to enjoy it!
Since the incredible final of the 34th Cup in the fabulous AC 72s, in September 2013, we have seen the arrival of the AC 45s, at first a little skeptically, then we enjoyed the AC World Series, becoming more and more excited. Races which demonstrated to us the exceptional potential of these flying boats, the fastest ever designed by man. And if you don’t believe us, go back to Multihulls World n°152, and re-read the incredible sail we were lucky enough to experience aboard the French catamaran which is going to race in the 35th America’s Cup...
On 26th May 2017, the first race of the Round Robin will pit the French against the Americans. The start is planned for 5pm (Bermuda time). We will then see Sweden against Japan, France against the New Zealanders, and finally the British against Sweden.
The races will follow in this way until the semi-finals on 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th June, which will see the four best crews of the Challengers battle for the best of 9 legs. As there are five Challengers (and one Defender – the Americans, holders of the trophy) in the running at the start, just one will be eliminated before the semi-finals.
The Challengers’ final, the famous Louis Vuitton Cup, will see the two best crews competing again for the best of nine legs, on 10th, 11th and 12th June.
Finally, the best of the Challengers will be able to challenge the American Defender on 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th June, for the best of 13 matches.
An event not to be missed, as the images are always exceptional, and the intensity at its height.
