Can I offer you a little rum?

Every four years, the same rush of enthusiasm overwhelms ocean racing fans, but also the general public are always amazed by the performance of these single-handers daring to rush across the Atlantic on their extraordinary machines... And it’s now forty years since the first Route du Rhum made history with a stunning finale between a 21m monohull and a small 11m dragonfly, the Olympus Photo trimaran. Just 98 seconds separated the two sailors on machines as far apart as possible in design after 3,500 miles of an anthological race.

But what will happen this year? 122 solo sailors will be on the start line (including 32 multihulls) to write a new chapter in the history of offshore racing and make us dream: the time for the fastest transat could be as little as... 5 or 6 days!

Note that the new Ultims are able to fly for almost the entire crossing.

You have your doubts?

Well, read our test aboard Gitana 17. Philippe, our in-house boat tester who has sailed on just about every existing racing boat - we barely exaggerate - has still has not come back down from his little cloud after spending hours at the helm of a flying Ultim... That's also the magic of the Route du Rhum, succeeding in making us (ALL) dream!

Ladies and gentlemen competitors, get yourselves to Pointe-à-Pitre and celebrate your arrival! Until then, be careful...
