Multihulls World n° 198

Digital paper for Multihulls World?

Given our headline “New for 2025 – Discover all our videos!”, you’d be entitled to ask yourself a few questions, especially if you’ve got the paper version of our magazine in your hands. And why the QRCode on the cover? I’d like to explain all, if you don’t mind.

To being with, the backstory: Multihulls World, which will soon be celebrating its 40th anniversary thanks to you, has always been an avant-garde publication. First of all, because of its subject matter: putting together a 100% multihull magazine back in 1985 was quite a challenge... As was offering an English-language version aimed mainly at American readers from 1990 onwards. What followed was a website in 1998 and a presence on social media for nearly 15 years.

Logically, Multihulls World has been at the forefront of the so-called “digital transition”. However, rather than abandoning the costly paper format and devoting ourselves exclusively to digital, as so many other media publishers have done - or are doing - we have opted for another, gentler approach, one that is more respectful of you, our readers, who remain attached to our print version.

So for the last three years we’ve been reconciling paper and digital. Thanks to the use of QRCodes, you can access our exclusive video content or previous boat tests (we’ve done almost 600 of them!) via your phone or tablet, just as you can by clicking on the blue icons in our digital version.

Whether you’re browsing our website or our YouTube channel, you’ll always find clickable links to the content that interests you.
Just over a year ago, we decided to manage the distribution of the paper version of the magazine directly with you, in order to lower our prices and save almost 80 tons of paper a year in the process.

At the same time, we’ve further strengthened our presence at boat shows around the world - if you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter to receive free invitations! The same goes for our social media - in particular our famous Shorts, vertical one-minute video formats that are proving extremely popular.

This unique, global formula we’ve put in place could be called “digital paper”. And it’s far from set in stone: from our next Power Buyer’s Guide, a single QRCode will cover all the content for a single multihull model. Another small revolution at Multihulls World...

So if we’ve published the QRCode from our YouTube channel on the cover, it’s so we can give you even more!

Enjoy reading - and watching!
